With the glittering Awards ceremony now over and the comments from all our voters clutched in our hands we’re feeling unbelievably proud, and a tiny bit emotional (but don’t tell anyone!) about our participation in The Wedding Industry Awards 2018. It’s been quite a rollercoaster and whilst we know we’ve got a great team, to hear it from the people who really count, our couples, means the world. It’s exactly why we do this and we’re never going to forget that.
So after winning our regional heat as Best Wedding Caterer (and what a huge region it is too – Yorkshire AND the North East) we were put through to the National Finals taking place in London. Some of the team dusted off their glad rags and headed on down there ready to party the night away at the Café de Paris. By all accounts they had a fantastic night flying the flag for us and meeting some of the other finalists. Sadly we didn’t win, but we’re by no means disheartened by this – we were up against some stiff competition! Huge congratulations to With A Twist Catering who were well deserved winners and also to Four Gables Food who were highly commended.
We wouldn’t have been very proud Regional Winners, or National Finalists without the votes that were cast by our lovely couples and we’re feeling incredibly humbled not only by the number of you who chose to take the time to vote (you actually have to give feedback and not just click a button!) but also by the comments that we’re now able to read. There are so many that we can’t share them all in this post but you’ll see them popping up on our social media pages soon and in the meantime, here’s a very lovely, but very small, selection..
‘F4D took on our tapas style wedding catering and gave us the best tapas we’d ever had and we’ve eaten a lot of tapas! Not only has every guest there consistently mentioned the food since the wedding, we also never stopped hearing people talking about it whilst there too! We had a huge mix of dietary reqs from veggies to vegans, wheat intolerant and a Pescatarian! They catered for everyone with unique and delicious food without a kitchen – they only had an empty room! 15+ dishes a table. Incredible!’
‘Outstanding service, food and presentation. I am still yet to write formally to thank as we have just returned from Honeymoon. Friends 4 Dinner are incredible!! Right from initial booking to the wedding day itself. All our guests have commented about how amazing the food was! I still can’t comprehend how you can cook 134 beef fillets to perfection from a catering tent!’
‘From the initial call, right through to the days before the wedding, F4D guided us and were on hand, what felt like all the time. No request was too silly or too extravagant. We really loved that we had a face to face consultation and a full tasting session that brought the consultation to life and allowed for amendments. It also meant that we had no need to worry on the day. On the food quality and presentation was impeccable with the staff falling over themselves to assist beyond the catering’
‘The food, the attention to detail, the people, were all outstanding from our first contact with them but, imagine, they ship in field kitchens, produce a superlative meal for 100 people and don’t tell us (till late in the evening) that the hired ovens had failed and they produced this incredible meal, all cooked on site, with perfect fillet of beef at the heart of the meal, from a single domestic oven. No fuss, no delay, no sign, just a truly fabulous service and the most incredible cooking!’
‘Friends for Dinner were superb. Our guests were blown away by the food. The canapés were a real show stopper. The main course was designed to our specific requests and worked perfectly with the general theme of the wedding. The service provided was first class from the very start. We could not have wished for more from Friends 4 Dinner’
‘The service provided by Jonathan, Katrina and Olivia from the moment we stepped into West Milford Grange kitchen until our wedding day was phenomenal. We couldn’t have asked for anymore and they delivered beyond all expectations. Our day wouldn’t have been as memorable without them, we have already and will continue to recommend them to anyone looking for the best wedding caterers’
‘Katrina, Allie & Jonny are the best caterers I’ve ever worked with! They are super personable, flexible and helpful. Without them we wouldn’t have been able to have the wedding we dreamed of, they were so integral to the big day. We are huge foodies and the food was outstanding and beautifully presented. We love that F4D use local suppliers and also helped us with those ever important timings. We would defo use them as caterers for any future dinner parties/events we do!’
‘We needed something unusual and cost effective. They were the only caterers we contacted who genuinely were interested in making our vision work within our budget. We spoke to at least 20 others who just gave us the ‘same old’ wedding food but not Friends for Dinner. Their customer service is also really friendly, relaxed and personal. They always respond to requests quickly and show you how much you matter to them’
‘Friends 4 Dinner served around 80 guests at our wedding an outstanding meal which was very much enjoyed by all. They managed to pull this off working in a very small area in a marquee which was in the middle of a field. How they did this I do not know. The presentation was amazing and the attention to details was 1st class. The team worked extremely hard to deliver something special to our guests and not one person was disappointed. Everybody raved about the food. Totally amazing company’
‘Just unbelievably brilliant!!’
‘Friends 4 Dinner more than deserve a ten in every one of these categories. They manicured a menu for us, that not only suited our style and tastes, but was fantastic value. Throughout the lead up to the day, they were attentive and in touch frequently, putting us at ease and keeping us in the loop. On the day, they couldn’t have been better, the staff were wonderful, the food was sublime and they were unseen when required and there when needed, a perfect company and selection of people. Thank you’
We normally like to fill a blog post with lovely images but in all honesty, this one is just about the words, so that’s how we’ve left it.
We’ll be in touch with everyone who voted early next week but in the meantime, thank you so much from all of Team F4D. It genuinely means the world to us that you took the time to vote and give feedback (and such amazing feedback at that!).
Today we’re bringing you another fantastic venue. If you’re looking for a unique, urban luxe events space then we have just the place for you – let us introduce you to New Craven Hall which is a fabulous venue right in the industrial area south of Leeds city centre.
NCH is a fantastic space to hold your event. Here’s what they say about it..
The Main Hall
Elegant yet versatile, the space can be used for a range of events, our vast main hall is a blank canvas which clients can tailor to their own theme. The exposed brick walls and sparkling fairy lights create an instantly relaxing atmosphere for every occasion be it a wedding party or charity ball to a conference or product launch. The Main Hall can also be halved if needed using our grand curtain to cater to smaller parties. Dependant on the layout of the room we can seat parties of up to 200 guests. Standing we can hold parties of up to 400.
Our bar area leads off from the main hall, a great place to relax in our cosy seating area. Dimmed lighting, copper tones and flickering candles create the perfect setting. Inspired by the ever expanding and creative culture of Leeds City Centre, you really will feel like you’re in another of the city’s unique bars.
Our Yard area is perfect for clients who want to create a relaxed outdoor area. Once night falls our festoon lighting and chic furniture create a unique, urban outdoor space.
We absolutely love catering here and highly recommend that you speak to Jane & Ben (who are both super helpful and very lovely!) if you’re considering any type of event. We genuinely don’t think you will regret it.

We know it’s not quite the last day of 2017 yet, but we’ve a packed schedule of events with our last wedding of the year taking place today and of course, plenty of New Years Eve celebrations.
Where do we start? We can’t believe that we’re writing the final blog of the year – and what a fantastic, whirlwind year it’s been. When you work in event catering no two days are the same and that’s one of the things we enjoy the most about this crazy business we’re in. We’re constantly heading off in different directions and working in places we have never worked before and we love it – variety really is the spice of life!
When we look back on 2017 we can’t help but be really proud of everything we’ve achieved as it’s been a phenomenal year. An obvious year high was winning the regional final of The Wedding Industry Awards as Best Caterer, an award that was judged on customer feedback supplied by our couples. Some awards are judged solely by people who are incredibly talented in their field but have no knowledge of the finalists, and whilst it’s always an honour to be considered the best by those, it’s not the same as winning based on the feedback of the people you really do it all for – your couples. Nothing makes us happier! We’re also rather proud that our category was such a large one geographically, covering not only Yorkshire but the North East too. We’re now through to the National Finals which take place in London in January – keep your fingers crossed please, we’re up against some stiff competition!
So what else has been ticking our boxes this year? Stand up all the fabulous new venues (and their teams!) that we’re now working with. We’re incredibly pleased to be continuing long standing relationships with some of the finest venues out there, but we’re now fit to burst with options for all of our lovely couples and clients, whether it’s for a wedding, weekend away or a corporate event. Our motto is that you can never have too much choice and because we know the venues so well, we’re well equipped to make suggestions that are just perfect for you. We’re also working more closely with selected marquee and tipi companies so we can recommend the right people for you.
We’ve also swelled our ranks this year with some fab new team members coming on board to join an already very strong team, including Howard and also Claire, who is our lovely corporate liaison. It’s also really important for us that we have a multi skilled team and we now have a number of us who have passed our Personal Licence exams and can run the alcohol side of things even more competently (what’s a good party without alcohol, right?). And talking of additions to the F4D family, our next grandchild is due in the Summer joining his/her cousins, Evie and Harrison. We can’t wait to meet them!
Our little black book has had a review too, and whilst we’re continuing to recommend those people who we love to work with and who we know will do an amazing job for you (nothing changes there!), we’ve handpicked even more fabulous suppliers. All the amazing people can get booked up so quickly but we’re giving you the best chance we can of securing someone special and you can find them on our brand spanking new website which we love. If you haven’t already checked it out, you can do here
All in all it’s been a crazy but amazing year and we’ll remember so many good times from it. Thank you to all our couples, corporate clients, industry friends and supporters, suppliers and of course our team. We’re incredibly lucky to now consider so many of you friends. Here’s to an amazing 2018 for each and every one of you and remember that the kettle is always on if you’re passing. Enjoy the New Years Eve celebrations and we’ll see you on the other side!
Katrina & Jonathan
The Pantone Colour of 2018 has been announced and it’s all about the glamour! The 2018 colour is Ultra Violet – a deep purple shade which according to Pantone ‘communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking’. We’re going to be seeing it everywhere, and certainly in weddings, so how do you incorporate this rich colour into your day?
You don’t need to have everything in this shade, sometimes a gentle nod to the colour can be much more effective. Introducing the shade by using coloured linen napkins is perfect..
How about your reception drink? You can either have the drink or the glassware in a purple tone or add edible flowers to pimp your prosecco..
Pair this up with a touch of gold to up the glamour stakes.
And whilst we’re talking about edible flowers, we often use these to introduce colour to your courses, but you could incorporate them on cute cakes as favours? How beautiful are these?
Alternatively, give your guests violet coloured macarons as favours (or as petit fours with their coffee). Our chefs make the most delicious macarons and they’re a sure fire crowd pleaser.
You can of course introduce the colour via your flowers or the bridesmaids dresses but however you do it, we’re sure it will look fantastic.

We’re at Hornington Manor almost every week for both corporate events and weddings and we’re not surprised – this is such a fabulous venue!
Hornington Manor is a Grade II listed manor house that was built in 1770 and is set in 300 acres of peaceful North Yorkshire countryside. The house is located in the historic village of Bolton Percy close to the city of York. The 17th century manor farm house and associated buildings have been lovingly restored to their former glory to provide luxury self catering accommodation. The manor is set on a working farm and offers a total of 16 bedrooms split over four areas of the house including the Hornington Lodge, Manor House, West Wing and the Servants Quarter.
The most recent addition to Hornington Manor is their charming, rustic wedding barn. Previously home to our new born lambs, the barn has been lovingly transformed into a beautiful wedding venue that seats up to 150 guests comfortably.
The wedding barn still provides a few clues to its former use such as the huge double doors which open out onto the courtyard, and the wonderful exposed beams. But the beauty of the wedding barn is that you can really put your own personal style into your day. The mezzanine level could be the perfect place for a soft-seating area, for guests to give themselves a break from dancing. Whatever you decide, our motto is \’your day, your way\’.
There are literally too many good things about Hornington to share – you really need to see it yourself, trust us on this one. The team are incredibly friendly and helpful and they’ll be more than happy to introduce you to the delight that is Hornington Manor. If you’re lucky, you’ll even get to meet the alpacas!
