What’s Hot for Wedding Catering in 2018

2017 has definitely been a year of couples choosing to show their personalities through their wedding and with their menu’s too. Your whole day should be a reflection of you both as individuals and as a couple, giving your guests an insight into the things you enjoy the most, and your wedding catering is an excellent place to start!

This year we’ve seen a huge increase in sharing board courses as couples are wanting a relaxed, friendly vibe to their day, veering away from the more traditional plated three courses. A sharing platter course always looks amazing and is a real wow when brought to the table – it certainly gets your guests chatting! We’ve introduced some new Sharing Boards to our menu’s including ‘Pig Out’, ‘Winner Winner’ and ‘I’m Game!’ Pig Out consists of Belly Pork, Scotch Egg with Scratching Crumb, Marinated Pork Fillet, Sausage Lollipop with Pancetta, Black Pudding, Savoury Apple Crumble, Sage & Onion Roast Potatoes, Roasted Roots and a Café au Lait Sauce – is your mouth watering yet?

Or how about Paella, cooked in the large pans outside and then served to table or even as evening food in cute bamboo boats? Tapas is one of our most popular menu’s and yet again has that relaxed, sharing vibe – there’s always plenty to go around and who doesn’t love tapas?

And talking of evening food, how about our current team favourite – Yorkshire Pudding Wraps? Trust us – these are absolutely delicious. You can guarantee you’ll have happy guests when these make an appearance!

Real Wedding – Kate & Jimi

We’re taking a little trip down memory lane today, back to the wedding of Kate & Jimi in early September last year. Despite the heavens opening and the team having to deal with a few ‘weather related’ issues (including vehicles getting stuck!) it really was such a beautiful day and one we’ll remember for a long time.

The menu for the day was enjoyed by every one with a selection of canapés to greet the guests on their return from church followed by a Thai Style Slaw with Fresh King Prawns, Coriander, Ginger and Sweet Chilli, a Seared Loin of Venison served with a Red Wine and Chocolate Jus accompanied by Roasted Chantenay Carrots, Fine Green Beans and Dauphinoise Potatoes and to finish, a Trio of Traditional Scottish Cranachan with Shortbread, Rich Chocolate Brownie and Lemon Posset served with Fresh Raspberries.

Here’s the lovely message we got from Kate, Jimi and Bev (Kate’s mum)…

‘A formal thank you will follow, but on behalf of Jim, mum, I and our whole family and friends thank you SO SO much for putting on the most wonderful wedding breakfast last Saturday at our wedding.
Not only was the food excellent, the service couldn’t be faulted and the comments from almost every single guest was centred on how excellent the food and service was.
Not only did you go above and beyond on the day, however, you (Allison in particular) was superb in fixing last minute mishaps that weren’t always your direct responsibility (e.g. the faulty generator on the morning of the wedding…!) and took all the stress away from the bride, groom and mum.
We could not recommend you more and I hope / am sure more business will come your way as a result of catering at our wedding. The Thorner lot love a good party and you proved you can handle it and go beyond expectations!!!!!!

Nestled away, just outside the village, is the private land set aside for wedding celebrations, glamping, camping and other occasions.  Accessed through lockable gates, private road and track, the 35 acres is available to hire for the sole use of you and your party.  Tucked attractively next to St Katherine’s Church and Loversall Hall, the Meadow consists of gently undulating grassland, bordered by trees, a copse and well established pond.

Wedding Catering

And The Winner Is…

You may have seen on our social media pages recently that we had been entered into The Wedding Industry Awards 2018 as Best Caterer and we had made it to the Regional Finals which took place at The Mansion in Leeds on Monday night. Some of the team got their glad rags on and headed over, admittedly not really expecting to win (well, you never do, do you?) but looking forward to the experience.

The voting panel made their decision based on information sent to them by our couples, therefore the award was made on merit and for this we’re extremely proud. Every single team member contributed to the scores and feedback that our couples sent through.

Well, we’re pretty sure you will have seen the news (you’re reading our social media updates right?) and we’re absolutely delighted to confirm that we won! We’re incredibly proud of this achievement as it’s a well recognised award within the industry, and also the region that we won for was not only Yorkshire but the North East too. By anyone’s standards, that’s a lot of ground to have covered!

Having won the Regional heat we’re now heading to the National Final in London in January. We have no doubt we’ll be up against some stiff competition with some incredible caterers but we’re looking forward to being in the running.

We’re not planning to put forward an Oscar worthy speech here but we do want to thank all the couples who took the time to vote. Being able to play a part in your day was already an honour but the fact you appreciated what we’d done, enough to put your votes in, means the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

And finally, because we couldn’t do it without them, thank you to our team. This award is for all of you and we definitely couldn’t have done it without you! Team F4D rock!!

Supplier Spotlight – CPW Chauffeur Services

We work with some of the best in the industry and we’re always happy to make recommendations of great people that we’ve worked with so with this in mind, we thought we’d put those fab suppliers that are featured on our website, under the spotlight. When did you launch your business and what is your background?

CPW Chauffeur Services launched in January 2016 and is run by Colin who served as a Police Constable in North Yorkshire Police for 30 years, retiring in September 2015. Since then he has combined his personal protection experience and love of driving to offer an impeccable first class service.
Colin wanted to put all the skills and experiences he had accrued in the Police and take on a new challenge which he has done in the form of his Chauffeur Company, CPW Chauffeur Services, about which he is extremely passionate – aiming to deliver the same high quality service to new clients as he provided to Royalty and Heads of State.
Being the company owner and principle driver we feel his background is important to not only reflect his own personal qualities that are the essence of the company’s reputation but the same high standards apply to chauffeurs who work for us and represent our strong principles of service and professional care.
Colin’s Police and Close Protection background means he has become an expert in planning and logistics having planned hundreds of firearms operations and VIP Protection visits including visits by HM The Queen and the majority of the British Royal family, past Prime Ministers and Politicians and former US Presidents namely George Bush (Snr).
Attention to detail is Colin’s watch word and his nature is being a perfectionist so he will devote 110% effort and enthusiasm when planning every job leaving no stone unturned as well as factoring in any “what ifs” that may occur. He is a problem solver and will think on his feet as well as a great communicator and will always go that extra mile to guarantee his clients are satisfied.

Tell us a bit about the services you offer. How would you describe your style?

Our style is appropriately captured in our tag line which is that “we offer a bespoke and enviable service with a distinguished reputation for being professional, personable and punctual.”
We offer a wide and diverse range of services from Weddings, Proms, Sightseeing and Guided Tours, Airport transfers, Special occasions and Country Pursuits.
Country pursuits are when CPW Chauffeur Services really comes in to its own and stands out from most other chauffeur companies!
The flagship vehicle of the fleet, the iconic Range Rover Sport offers everything all other chauffeur cars can do and so much more. And our service comes with the peace of mind that your chauffeur is a retired police firearms instructor with years of handling firearms and gun safety expertise.
Services include:
Full door to door service from transport hub to shoot lodge to moor.
Robust 4×4 capability allows clients to be driven off road over some of the toughest terrains to their grouse butts or shooting pegs.
Large comfortable roomy air conditioned vehicle with oodles of luggage space for guns and ancillary equipment.
Personal Loading Service as drivers are National Gamekeepers Organisation (NGO) Qualified Loaders.
Overnight gun cleaning and storage as some drivers have their own shotgun licences, guns and cabinets.
Drivers appropriately dressed in shooting tweeds and country wear and have a full understanding of the etiquette involved in a days shooting.
Drivers have their own PPE and gun cleaning kit and often carry spares.
Driver only service where we drive you in your own vehicle.

Weddings are our other speciality.
On one of the most important days of your life you want everything to be perfect and go to plan. There will be a plethora of things to organise and the pressure to get things right can be immense.
We take the pressure off you when it comes to sorting out your wedding transportation needs.

We can provide:
Bridal cars.
Transport for Groom and his party.
Transport for Bridesmaids and family members.
End of evening transport for Bride and Groom and other guests from reception venue to hotels.

Putting into practice his Close Protection planning background Colin will recce venues, drive and time routes and factor in alternate routes in case of any eventuality.
If practicable Colin always likes to have a meeting with the Bride and Groom before the big day which gives things a more personal touch.

Full Windsor knot and bow tie tying service for Groom and Groomsmen.

Any favourite moments from a wedding?

All our weddings are special because we meet our clients and therefore create a rapport and personal yet professional relationship with them. This is reflected in our feedback as well as the personal ‘Thank you cards’ and gifts we receive.

Where are you located and what areas do you offer services in?

We are located in Tadcaster where we have lived for nearly 30 years so we are a truly local business and love providing our services to the community. We do however offer our services anywhere in the country and have done so as far and wide as Inverness to Southampton so the entire length and breadth of the country.

How far in advance would you recommend that couples book you?

We are already taking bookings for weddings in 2019 but realise that Brides and Grooms like to plan well in advance. However for other types of work we do operate on a short notice basis if we have availability.

What type of bride or groom do you think your style appeals to and why?

Our style does not appeal to any specific dynamic. Our customers must be looking for a modern wedding car and generally love Range Rovers which perfectly compliments a rural location or a venue such as Hornington Manor, The Normans, Priory Cottages or Skipbridge Weddings. They also look amazing at Tipi, Yurts or Marquee weddings.
